Overview

Keep the middle course.

It's the oldest warning about ambition, and it earns its ending. We told the myth of Icarus in full — narrated, about two minutes long — and built the wings so that the fall would actually mean something.

The story

The craftsman Daedalus and his son Icarus are imprisoned in a sea-tower. Wings are built feather by feather from wax and hope, and the father gives his warning: keep the middle course.

Then the leap — soaring over a shining sea — until the boy climbs toward the sun. The wax melts. The feathers shed one by one. Icarus falls the whole way down into the water. The film closes on the series line: "Every myth deserves to be a video."

How we made it

The whole emotional payload rides on one mechanic — the wings — so we built them to behave honestly. Some of the craft:

• It's narrated by the same warm British voice as Pandora's Box ("George"), the consistent voice of the myth series, tuned for smooth, flowing delivery.
• The winged-flyer is an upright stick figure rotated along its direction of travel, with a fan of nine feather leaves per wing beating in sync. As the wax melts, the outer feathers drop first and the wingspan visibly recedes — twenty-six individual feathers flutter down to the sea.
• The palette is a luminous morning-over-the-sea: deep blue into warm haze, a blazing sun with a glitter column on the water, a stone tower fading behind.
• The camera follows him up toward the sun, then down into the plunge — splash rings, spray, and a camera jolt on impact. The film runs about a hundred and twenty-one seconds.

The takeaway

Ambition is good; altitude control is better. And yes — the fall is the part everyone watches twice, which is exactly the point of putting a story in motion.
